Guidelines for Baked Goods: All types of baked goods are needed.  Please bring your items packaged in the following way if possible: Cookies:  6 cookies per bag; Brownies/Bars: 2 per bag OR 4 per bag; Muffins, Scones and Cupcakes:  bring on a plate or in a tin, or package individually; Sheet cakes:  bring whole in a container, already cut; Whole pies and cakes, uncut, are also welcome.

Noyes & the Boyes

Audrey Ludemann (née Noyes), Harry Hussey, Mark Lebow & Greg Smith bring their range of acoustic styles from traditional to “psychedelic folk” to the Grange. Noyes & the Boyes evolved from a musicians’ “collective” that has been performing and recording in Southwest Connecticut since 1971, with periodic performances at Copake Grange during the past four years. The show will feature originals and covers of other artists’ songs including material from the band’s past studio albums. Tickets $15 at the door, or pay what you can.

Celebrate Earth Day and help us keep Copake beautiful! We’re organizing to pick up litter along roads in Copake hamlet, Copake Falls, Craryville and Copake Lake. Meet us at the Grange Hall at 9am, and we will provide trash bags. Bring your own gloves and sturdy shoes. You may drop off your collection by noon at the dumpster at Town Hall, 230 Mountain View Rd. or, if the dumpster is full, bring it to the Copake Park dumpster or the transfer station. Monthly Meeting & Welcome Breakfast!

The April monthly meeting will begin early at 8:30 am with a breakfast celebration to welcome the many new members who have joined the Grange in 2023 and year to date 2024, as well as those who have applied to join but not been inducted.  Full breakfast will be available buffet-style.  Afterward there will be a short regular monthly meeting.

In conjunction with the meeting, the Community Service Committee is spearheading a Giving Day. When members come to the meeting they may bring donations for the Roe Jan Food Pantry.  The Pantry has requested that the Grange collect personal hygiene products as well as flour, salt and pepper shakers (not filled), bread crumbs and cooking oils. Also, members may contribute cash, loose change, checks for the milk can collection, which goes to fund supplies that are needed for the emergency supply closet at the Taconic Hills School. Written and directed by local playwright Carl Ritchie, producing artistic director of Taconic Stage Company, the play “Your Town” kicks off Copake’s Bicentennial celebration and features local talent as well as professional actors. It is inspired by the famous play “Our Town” by Thornton Wilder, as well as the actual minutes of Copake’s own first town meeting in April 1824. Performances are Friday, April 5 at 7pm,  Saturday, April 6 at 2pm and 7pm,  Sunday, April 7 at 2pm at Copake Grange.

A Shayna Maidel

The Two of Us Productions presents A Shayna Maidel, the Obie and Outer Critics Circle award winning drama by Barbara Lebow.  A “Shayna Maidel”, Yiddish meaning “pretty girl,” tells the story of the reunion of two sisters after World War II, one having survived the Nazi concentration camps. A Shayna Maidel is a memory play in that it is set in three times: when Mordechai Weiss is born in 1876, when his two daughters (Rose White and Lusia Weiss Pechenik) are reunited in New York City during the present (1946), and when Lusia has flashbacks of her life in Poland immediately before and after the Holocaust.

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the Grange Classic Film series presents "The Quiet Man", a 1952 romantic comedy-drama directed and produced by John Ford, starring John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and Barry Fitzgerald.

After accidentally killing an opponent in the ring, boxer Sean Thornton leaves America and returns to his native Ireland, hoping to buy his family's homestead and live in peace. Instead, he falls in love with a fiery redhead, whose angry and spiteful brother tries to block the marriage.

The film features Winston Hoch's lush photography of the Irish countryside and won the Academy Award for Best Director and for Best Cinemotography. Classic Film Series organizer, Lenny Barham, will provide commentary and insights. Stay after the movie for dinner: soup, salad, bread and dessert. Movie admission is by donation. Dinner is $10.

In commemoration of Martin Luther King Day, see this 1967 mystery drama which was nominated for 7 Academy Awards. Watch the trailer here. When a wealthy visitor to a small Mississippi town is found murdered, suspicion quickly centers on a black Philadelphia police detective (Sidney Poitier) who is just passing through. The white police chief (Rod Steiger) soon learns that Poitier's character is an expert homicide detective and enlists him to help solve the case.
